Toradex has officially introduced the Luna SL1680 single-board computer (SBC), marking the debut of its new Pro Consumer product line. Positioned precisely between mainstream consumer development boards and fully industrial-grade hardware, the Luna SL1680 is designed for intelligent self-service terminals, lightweight industrial systems, and advanced maker projects. It stands out by combining strong on-device AI performance with the reliability required for semi-controlled deployment environments.

Synaptics SL1680 at the Core: Up to 8 TOPS of AI Performance
At the heart of the Luna SL1680 is the Synaptics SL1680 system-on-chip (SoC). The platform integrates a quad-core Arm Cortex-A73 CPU running at up to 2.1 GHz, providing a solid foundation for multitasking and general-purpose compute workloads.
For machine learning and edge AI use cases, the SoC includes a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) capable of delivering up to 8 TOPS of INT8 dense inference performance. This makes the board well suited for common edge AI scenarios such as image recognition, object detection, and data classification, without relying on cloud-side inference.
In terms of memory and storage, the Luna SL1680 supports up to 4 GB of 32-bit LPDDR4 RAM and up to 256 GB of onboard eMMC storage. This configuration allows systems to run reliably without external storage devices, significantly improving deployment simplicity and long-term stability.

Rich I/O and Wide Operating Temperature for Versatile Deployments
Connectivity and expandability are key strengths of the Luna SL1680. The board provides four USB 3.x Type-A ports and one Gigabit Ethernet interface, enabling high-speed networking and multi-peripheral connectivity. For multimedia and vision-focused applications, it supports HDMI input and output, a MIPI DSI display interface, and dual MIPI CSI camera interfaces, allowing flexible integration of displays and image sensors.
Expansion is handled via an M.2 Key E slot connected through PCIe, supporting Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other compatible expansion modules. This significantly extends the functional scope of the platform.
The board is rated for an operating temperature range of –25 °C to +85 °C. While this does not fully match the environmental specifications of Toradex’s industrial-grade modules, it clearly exceeds typical consumer-class development boards and is suitable for deployments where enhanced thermal robustness is required.
Powered by Torizon: Efficient Development with Built-In Security
The Luna SL1680 is a direct outcome of the strategic collaboration announced between Toradex and Synaptics in October 2025. This partnership brings Toradex’s Torizon embedded Linux platform to the Synaptics Astra family of edge AI processors. Luna SL1680 is the first tangible result of this cooperation, with future support planned for next-generation Astra devices such as the SL2610.
Torizon is an embedded Linux distribution designed for long-term maintenance, secure deployment, and industrial lifecycle management. It features a container-based workflow and supports development in C, C++, Python, and Rust. The platform includes integrated mechanisms for secure updates, vulnerability management, and device lifecycle control, aligning with modern cybersecurity regulations such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act. This makes the Luna SL1680 suitable for a smooth transition from prototyping to volume production.
