LILYGO T-Lora Dual LR: High-Integration Dual-Band LoRa + ESP32-S3 Module for IoT Development

LILYGO has introduced the T-Lora Dual LR, a compact and highly integrated wireless module designed for IoT applications. The board combines an ESP32-S3R8 microcontroller with two LR1121 transceivers, enabling simultaneous support for Sub-GHz and 2.4 GHz LoRa, along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE connectivity. This architecture provides engineers with a flexible platform that covers long-range, short-range, and dual-band LoRa communication within a single device.

Key Features and Design Highlights

1. ESP32-S3R8 Main Controller with Short-Range Wireless

At the core of the module is the ESP32-S3R8, built around a dual-core LX7 architecture. This SoC integrates Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 5 LE, offering both robust wireless connectivity and sufficient compute performance for edge processing, sensor management, and protocol handling.

2. Dual LR1121 Transceivers for Full LoRa Coverage

The RF subsystem features two independent LR1121 transceivers, each supporting LoRa and GFSK modulation. With coverage across 150–960 MHz (Sub-GHz) and 2.4 GHz, the module enables long-range low-frequency LoRa and high-frequency 2.4 GHz LoRa operation on the same hardware platform.

Each transceiver is paired with its own antenna path, ensuring stable and independent operation for both Sub-GHz and 2.4 GHz links.

3. Hardware Details and Developer-Friendly Interfaces

The hardware design follows a clear and structured approach to support prototyping and integration:

  • Dedicated IO lines for each LR1121 chip, including MOSI, MISO, SCK, Reset, Busy, and DIOx signals
  • SMA antenna connectors for both the 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz frequency bands
  • Exposed GND, 5V, TX, and RX pads, simplifying integration when using the ESP32-S3 as the system controller
  • Onboard Reset and Boot keys for firmware flashing and debugging
  • A WS2812 RGB LED driven by GPIO34, suitable for system status indication

For software development, the module supports Arduino IDE and Visual Studio Code, making it accessible for both rapid prototyping and production-level development.
