RAKwireless has introduced the RAK3112 WisDuo LoRa Edge AI Module, which uniquely integrates an Espressif ESP32-S3 Wi-Fi + BLE SoC with a Semtech SX1262 LoRa transceiver. It is designed specifically for edge AI applications and Meshtastic user interface development.
As a “three-in-one” module combining LoRa, Wi-Fi, and BLE wireless technologies, the RAK3112 WisDuo represents a full upgrade over the previous ESP32-based RAK11200 WisDuo LoRa module. The RAK11200 had clear limitations in processing power and memory, which made it less suitable for demanding scenarios such as edge AI workloads and complex mesh networking. By contrast, the RAK3112 WisDuo integrates 16MB Flash and 8MB PSRAM, paired with the more capable ESP32-S3 microcontroller, overcoming these bottlenecks. This allows it to handle tasks such as camera data processing and audio signal analysis, while also being a strong fit for Meshtastic mesh applications.
For users of the RAK11160 module (STM32 + ESP32-C2 solution), which is optimized for ultra-low-power sensor nodes, the RAK3112 WisDuo offers a performance-focused upgrade path while maintaining pin compatibility.

Development Tools and Ecosystem Integration
The RAK3112 WisDuo can be programmed using ESP-IDF, Arduino, or PlatformIO, though it does not yet support RAKwireless’ Rui3 IoT development platform (common across other WisDuo modules).
It is electrically compatible with WisBlock base boards for “plug-and-play” usage, but at this stage, lacks a dedicated WisBlock adapter similar to the RAK11162 core module. An update is planned: the upcoming RAK3312 WisBlock LoRaWAN module, which will ship with the WisMesh RAK3312 Starter Kit.
From an application standpoint, the module excels in GUI development and Meshtastic UI building. With TensorFlow Lite Micro and ESP-DL deep learning library, it can also implement edge machine learning (Edge ML) features. Official documentation includes detailed hardware references, Arduino setup guides, and connection tutorials for The Things Network (TTN).

Pricing and Availability
The new RAK3112 WisDuo LPWAN module is now available on AliExpress and the RAKwireless official store at $8 per unit. For comparison:
- RAK11160 module – $6.5
- RAK11200 module – $9.9
This positions the RAK3112 as a balanced choice in terms of performance-to-price ratio.
Users should note that antennas are not included and must be purchased separately. Compatible antenna options range from $3–$6 depending on model.
